Bringing the off-Broadway play to the screen
The writer, Chip Deffaa, and I, had talked about committing his beautiful little jewel of a show to the screen for quite some time. Our schedules would never permit it, but during Covid, we thought, why not, let's just go ahead and do it. Really, the only change to the stage version is that onstage, the ghost of Cohan was haunting the theatre in which we were watching the performance. In this movie, Cohan haunts every single theatre he ever had a triumph in during his performing life on Broadway, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. "But some of those theatres are surely no longer standing..."
